Volker Maria Rabe - Bassbaritone
Volker Maria Rabe was born in 1967 near Hanover (FRG). He studied at the Academy of Music and Drama in Hanover and the Academy “Franz Liszt” in Weimar.
Volker Maria Rabe has already sung major works in the categories Lied/ Song and Oratorio. For example The Winters Journey by F. Schubert, Elijah by F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, the Requiem by W. A. Mozart and J. Brahms as well as several Cantatas, Passions and The Christmass Oratorio by J. S. Bach.
On stage he has performed roles like Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart, Eugene Onegin by P. I. Caikovsky, Petrucchio in ‘Kiss me Kate’ by C. Porter, Valentin in ‘Faust’ by Ch. Gounod, Dr. Falke in ‘The Bat’ by J. Strauss and Sid in B. Britten's 'Albert Herring'.
In 2005 he gave his Verdi Debut as Don Carlo di Vargas in ‘La Forza del Destino’.
Volker Maria Rabe has been guest soloist in several theatres in Germany for example ‘The Semperoper’ Dresden. After being member of the Ensemble in the Theatre Freiberg, he has changed to the Cottbus States Theater from 2002 to 2011.
As a freelance artist Volker Maria Rabe has already performed beyond the borders of Germany, he has sung in Carmina Burana by C. Orff at the award of the Doctor h. c. to Sr. J. Péres de Cuellar by the University of Lleida in Spain. Several times he has been the featured Baritone Soloist in The Songs of a Wayfarer by G. Mahler, which he has recorded with the International Young Orchestra Academy conducted by Larry Livingston (L.A.)
Volker Maria Rabe has an interest within the praxis of historical performance as well as the music of the 20th Century, he has taken part in masterclasses by Prof. Jacob Staempfli, Prof. Eglio Battaglia and Prof. Dalton Baldwin.
He was awarded a scholarship from the International Richard Wagner Society in Bayreuth.
